Out of the 170 graduates, 95 percent of Peekskill’s Class of 2016 will head off to college, vocational school or the armed forces after graduation. College acceptances include Fairleigh Dickinson University, Hofstra University, Marist College, New York Institute of Technology, Pace University, as well as multiple SUNY, CUNY and community colleges, among others.
Speakers at the event included Peekskill Mayor Frank Catalina, Peekskill Board of Education President Colin Smith, Peekskill High School Principal Dr. Cassandra Hyacinthe and Peekskill Superintendent Dr. David Fine.
At the ceremony, Superintendent Fine spoke to the Class of 2016, commending them on their efforts and wishing them the best in their future years. “Your job moving forward is to shine,” said Fine.
Fine then added a few reminders for the graduates to take note of, before once again congratulating them on their successes in high school.
“Practice what you have learned. Be real, stand tall, represent us, share your dreams, remain selfless, stay strong, say thank you, hold doors for people, give back to your community and continue to smile,” Fine said. “Our doors are always open. We love you and are so proud of you. Keep up the good work and well done everyone.”
